Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Watford have seen over 2.5 goals scored in seven of their last nine Championship games, including their last five on the spin. Meanwhile, Millwall have seen over 2.5 goals scored in three of their last five contests. Only five teams in the Championship, however, have outscored the Hornets this term.

Watford 2-1

Reason for tip

Both Millwall and Watford have seen both teams score in four of their last five league matches, and the Hornets have only kept one clean sheet in their last 10 games. The visitors have, however, posted impressive wins over Stoke City and Norwich City since appointing Slaven Bilic, and may be worth backing for victory in East London.

Millwall vs Watford Predictions

  • Over 2.5 goals have been scored in seven of Watford’s last nine games, including each of their last five.
  • Millwall, meanwhile, have seen a minimum of three goals scored in three of their last five matches.
  • Only five Championship sides have outscored Watford this season (19 goals), but only 10 have bettered Millwall’s tally of 17 strikes.

Watford enter Lion’s Den

It’s fair to say Slaven Bilic has endured a mixed beginning to his tenure at Watford. Having followed up a 4-0 shellacking of Stoke City with back-to-back defeats, the Hornets clinched a deeply impressive win over Norwich City last time out, keeping them above Wednesday’s opponents Millwall in the early-season Championship standings.

Watford’s recent encounters, whether overseen by Bilic or his Vicarage Road predecessor Rob Edwards, have tended to be high-scoring. Indeed, seven of Watford’s last nine games have contained over 2.5 goals, including each of their last five on the spin. The Hornets have hit the net eight times in four outings under Bilic, but conceded six goals in their last three, and a run of just one clean sheet in 10 games suggests there could be more entertainment to come at the Den.

Indeed, Millwall are on a decent run of their own, beating Middlesbrough and Bristol City in back-to-back encounters to make it three victories in their last five games, of which they have lost just one. That run represents a clear turnaround for Gary Rowett’s men, who lost five of their first eight matches this season, and has provided neutrals with decent viewing – three of Millwall’s last five games have contained over 2.5 goals.

Hornets can get fans buzzing

Despite their mixed start to the campaign, Watford boast the Championship’s joint-sixth best attacking record after hitting 19 goals in 14 outings this term, while Millwall have hit the net 17 times.

Millwall’s decent form may just instil enough doubt to turn punters away from the result markets and towards the goals betting, but Bilic’s men may be worth backing for a 2-1 away win on the correct score market.
