Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Porto were beaten 2-1 at Moreirense in the Portuguese Cup last month, but they should be better prepared for their hosts’ gameplan this time. The Dragons are not scoring enough goals away from home, managing no more than one in four of their last five away trips in all competitions. Moreirense usually score at home so a 1-1 result may be the outcome.

Moreirense vs FC Porto Predictions

  • Moreirense have avoided defeat in all seven home league games this season, winning five
  • Porto were beaten 2-1 at Moreirense in the Portuguese Cup last month

Dragons could be derailed in Moreira de Conegos

Moreirense will bid to maintain their unbeaten home record when they face Porto for the third time this season on Saturday evening at Estádio Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas.

The Dragons’ defence of the Portuguese Cup came to an end at Moreira de Cónegos last month in a 2-1 defeat to seventh-placed hosts, who also beat Sporting Lisbon by the same score in the league at the start of December.

Porto did earn a 2-0 victory in Aveiro when the two sides met in the League Cup at the end of October, but both coaches fielded much-changed sides for that one and the first-choice elevens will be selected for this clash.

Moreirense have mastered the smash-and-grab

Moreirense currently boast an impressive home record of five wins and two draws, having also beaten fourth-placed Santa Clara on their own patch. The Green and Whites also earned a 1-1 home draw against Benfica, but there was a running theme through their three best league results.
Cesar Peixoto’s side have become masters of the smash-and-grab, beating better teams by defending deep and taking their chances on the counter attack. They will attempt to make this work again when a Porto side not far removed from a three-game losing streak away from home arrives in Moreira de Cónegos.
Moreirense can avoid defeat if they score at least once because Porto have not been too potent on their travels of late and a 1-1 draw may be the final outcome in this closely-fought, tactical clash.
