Napoli ready to rule in Riyadh
Napoli were beaten by Inter in the Italian Super Cup final at the King Saud University Stadium two years ago, but Antonio Conte’s side look poised to go one better in this season’s renewal against Bologna in Riyadh.
Napoli battled to a 2-0 success against Milan in their semi-final showdown on Thursday, with David Neres and Rasmus Hojlund grabbing the goals, and that went some way to cancelling out earlier defeats to Benfica in the Champions League and Udinese in Serie A.
The Blues remain in Serie A title contention, only two points behind leaders Inter, and this is an opportunity they won’t want to let pass by for a second time in three seasons.
Bologna edged past Inter on penalties following a 1-1 draw in their last-four rumble on Friday, but they lost the shot count 14-8 and relied on some slacking finishing from their opponents.
Bologna have been in decent form for a while now and are sixth in Serie A, although they have won only seven of their 15 league outings and an extra day rest works in Napoli’s favour.
Vincenzo Italiano’s side have suffered defeats to Cremonese and Juventus, either side of a 1-1 draw with Lazio, in their last three league outings and this looks a tall order for them given Napoli’s formidable defensive record.
Napoli have six clean sheets in their last 12 matches, conceding more than once only twice in that period, suggesting Bologna may find clearcut chances hard to come.
Four of the last five meetings between these two teams have gone under 2.5 goals and, with that trend likely to be upheld, another 2-0 victory appeals most for Napoli.
