Tip Reasoning

The first leg of this tie looked to be going very well for Napoli as they opened the scoring inside ten minutes, but the writing was on the wall when Karim Benzema equalised ten minutes later. The start of the second half brought misery to the travelling fans, as Toni Kroos and Casemiro notched one each to give Real Madrid a 3-1 lead going into the second leg.

To add to Napoli’s troubles this defeat, which was their first since October, seems to have been the catalyst for a rather poor run of form. They followed it with a win at Chievo but the week after lost 2-0 at home to Atalanta and were then beaten by Juventus. They managed to get back to winning ways at the weekend with a 2-1 win over Roma, but them recovering from a two goal deficit against the most successful club in Champions League history seems a tall order.

Only one of these defeats have come at the Stadio San Paolo, and they have won eight of their last 13 home games in all competitions. However, Real Madrid are a much better side than anyone they’ve faced at home during this period.

The visitors were without Gareth Bale, Alvaro Morata, and Cristiano Ronaldo at the weekend but still managed a 4-1 battering of Eibar away from home. Bale and Morata are back now and Ronaldo, who was questionable during the weekend, should be fit, meaning the visiting side will definitely fancy their chances.

They have won seven of their last ten games in all competitions and lost just once. The last time they lost by a two goal margin was back in April last year as well in their trip to Wolfsburg in the Champions League.

A high scoring game looks inevitable here. Real Madrid haven’t failed to find the net away from home all season, but in the process they have kept just four clean sheets in their 19 away games. This has resulted in 16 of these 19 matches having at least three goals scored.

Napoli have scored in 17 of their 19 home matches but have conceded in 13 of them, with ten of them having at least three goals scored. This makes odds of 4/6 for Over 2.5 Goals look a good value bet, so I’m backing that alongside a 2-1 win for Real Madrid at 17/2 for my correct score predictions.
