Golden chance for Oranje

The Dutch blew away Romania in the last 16, creating chance after chance in a dominant 3-0 victory. That great win came at the perfect time for Ronald Koeman’s side, who have seen the tournament open up for them despite underwhelming in the group stage.

After losing to Austria in their final group game, the Dutch slipped to third in Group D. However, they got a kind draw against Romania and then they saw the Austrians eliminated by Turkey. Now the Dutch are odds-on favourites off the back of their strongest performance of the tournament, with a place in the semi-finals on the line.

Gakpo shining for Dutch

Cody Gakpo continued his strong showing in Germany, netting for the third time in four games in the win over Romania. Gakpo scored in his first three matches at the last World Cup and his fine tournament record has continued at Euro 2024.

The Liverpool forward has seven shots on target from 11 attempts through his first first four games and that fine record can continue in the last eight. With Turkey conceding over three Expected Goals against Austria in the last round, the chances should be there for Gakpo. Given the form he is in, he’s great value to add to his tally in this clash.

Another high-scoring clash for Koeman

The Netherlands have enjoyed a high-scoring year, with seven of their eight games in 2024 finishing with at least three goals scored. There have been 26 goals scored across those eight games, with the Dutch displaying a real attacking verve in their last game.

Each of Turkey’s four games at the Euros have seen three or more goals scored, following back-to-back 2-1 wins. However, they’ve failed to create the better chances in their last three matches, while they’ve kept only one clean sheet across their last 10 internationals.

With the Dutch looking improved going forward, back this to be another entertaining affair. Over 2.5 goals appeals here, while a win for the Netherlands stands out given Turkey’s string of overperforming their xG tally. A 2-1 victory for the Dutch is my correct score prediction.
