New England Revolution vs Colorado Rapids Predictions
New England Revolution are struggling a bit at the moment. They made it to the playoffs last season and eventually finished in 5th position in the MLS Eastern Conference, but at the moment they are languishing outside the top six.
They come into this match in 8th position in the Eastern Conference having collected just 27 points from their 27 games so far. This puts them four points above bottom placed Chicago Fire and five points adrift of 6th place DC United.
The hosts are showing no signs of a resurgence either, and if anything their form is dropping even further. Their 1-0 loss to New York Red Bulls last weekend made it five defeats, one draw, and one win from their last seven matches in all competitions. Their singular win was in the US Open Cup semi final as well, so in the MLS they are winless in six and have lost five of them.
Colorado Rapids finished last season rock bottom of the MLS Western Conference with 37 points from their 34 games. They have already surpassed that points total after a blistering start to the season, and despite their recent downturn in form they are still in with a chance of lifting the MLS Supporters Shield at the end of the season.
They currently occupy 3rd position in the MLS Western Conference, five points adrift of FC Dallas at the top of the table but with two games in hand on both of the teams above them.
However, Colorado Rapids aren’t in the best of placed form wise. They lost to Real Salt Lake last time out to make it two wins, six draws, and three defeats in their last 11 outings in all competitions. They will also be without top scorer Shkelzen Gashi and star midfielder Jermaine Jones due to the international fixtures, so despite their opponents poor form this could still be a struggle.
Neither of these teams are scoring particularly freely at the moment. New England Revolution have only scored four in their last five home matches and have seen fewer than three goals scored in eight of their 13 home games this season. Colorado Rapids have a similar scoring record on the road and have seen two or fewer goals scored in seven of their 12 away days.
This, plus the absence of a number of key players from both teams, makes odds of 3/4 for Under 2.5 Goals look a good value backing. I’m going for that along with a 1-1 correct score prediction at 11/2.
