Fast-starting Cityzens can catch Revs cold

Eastern Conference leaders New England Revolution make the trip to Red Bull Arena on Sunday morning to face a New York City FC side that are just starting to click.

The three-week international break came at a bad time for both sides in the sense that the Revs were on a three-game win streak and NYCFC had just stunned Los Angeles FC at home.

That impressive win for Ronny Deila’s men came courtesy of a 90th minute winner, four minutes after being reduced to ten men.

The Cityzens are a much better side than they were last season or their 2021 results so far suggest and it will be very hard for the Revs to extend their run to four road wins at Red Bull Arena.

It is true that their temporary home in Harrison is nowhere near as much of a fortress as Yankee Stadium, but they can still handle a Revs side that has begun to falter on their travels.

New England won seven of 11 away games between August and November 2020 (D1 L3), but have recorded only one win (against lowly Cincinnati) and taken five points from their last five on the road.

The Revs lead MLS with 16.5 shots per game and 14 chances created per game, largely in part to the form of Carles Gil, whereas New York don’t rely on one player to make them tick.

The Cityzens have scored in 18 straight MLS matches, which is the longest active streak in the game, and tend to make fast starts.

Delia’s men have scored inside the opening 20 minutes (including two goals before the 10th minute) in four of their six MLS games to date.

That’s why we are forecasting an early lead for them on Saturday and recommending a bet on New York FC to lead at both half-time and full-time.

The Revs average one goal a game on the road this season so, as a correct score play, we are getting behind a 3-1 win for the hosts.
