Blues can record another statement win

After a sluggish start to the season, things are finally starting to come together for Chelsea, who can continue their resurgence on the road to Newcastle on Saturday.

The Blues have won only four Premier League games this season but three of those victories have come since the start of October.

And this month in particular, they have looked dangerous, initially cruising to a 4-1 win away to Tottenham before battling to a 4-4 draw with champions Manchester City last time out.

That was a frenetic affair at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea were leading 2-1 after 37 minutes, only to go 3-2 and 4-3 down before Cole Palmer’s 95th-minute penalty salvaged a point.

It was, however, a well-deserved result for Maurico Pochettino’s side, who had won the shot count 17-15 and are now nestled in the mid-table positions.

There is still work to do if they are to push for the European places and beyond but they are heading in the right direction and a win away to Newcastle would be another big statement.

Fatigue and injuries holding Magpies back

Chelsea had their fair share of player absentees at the start of the season and Newcastle are now going through an injury crisis of their own.

The Magpies are set to be without Callum Wilson, Harvey Barnes, Sven Botman, Jacob Murphy, Dan Burn, Elliott Anderson and Matt Targett this weekend, although Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes could both return.

It looks as though Eddie Howe’s side are feeling the weight of juggling Premier League duties with the Champions League and fatigue could be setting in.

Their hopes of making the Champions League knockout stages took a hit with a 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund earlier in the month before they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth before the international break.

That loss meant they dropped to seventh, below the likes of Aston Villa and Manchester United, and only a point better off than Brighton.

Goals could be on the cards on Tyneside

There are undoubtedly goals in this Newcastle team – they have netted 27 times in 12 league matches – and the international break should have done the squad good.

But the injuries have stacked up and their morale is low, so go for in-form Chelsea in the draw-no-bet market, whereby stakes are returned in the event of a draw.

The goals have been flying in for Chelsea of late, so 2-1 looks like a decent correct score pick, while Nicolas Jackson is worth backing to find the net.

Jackson’s composure is questionable sometimes but his pace puts him in good positions and he scored four times across the games with Tottenham and Manchester City.
