Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest Predictions
- Forest have conceded in all six games under Postecoglou, conceding twice or more on four occasions
- Newcastle won 4-3 and 3-1 against Forest last season
- The hosts were 4-0 winners in the Champions League in midweek
- Woltemade has scored in three of his four starts for Newcastle
Problems for Postecoglou already
Ange Postecoglou has endured a difficult start at Nottingham Forest, with his side winless through their first six games. It seems that Forest’s succession plan for life after Nuno hasn’t gone to plan, while old issues that plagued his Tottenham side are already cropping up at the City Ground.
The home fans taunted their new boss during a 3-2 home defeat to Midtjylland on Thursday night. There are already reports that Postecoglou could be gone before their next home fixture on October 18th, should Sunday’s visit to Newcastle bring another setback for the beleaguered Australian.
Magpies are poised to trouble visitors
Newcastle shook off their late loss to Arsenal last weekend with a 4-0 thumping over Union Saint-Gilloise in midweek. Eddie Howe’s side have a reputation for solid, but at times cautious, football. However, their summer additions of Anthony Elanga and Nick Woltemade should make for a strong, cohesive attacking unit.
Woltemade, in particular, looks like a serious threat to Forest this weekend. The striker scored in Belgium in midweek, making it three goals in four starts for his new side. Last weekend’s opener against Arsenal displayed his aerial threat, while this Forest side are already all at sea when it comes to defending corners.
Woltemade is much more than just a big target man, while his scoring streak in 2025 marks him out as a great anytime option against a flailing defence.
Comfortable win for hosts
Forest’s defensive issues have led to them conceding multiple goals in four of their six games under Postecoglou, while Nuno’s final match brought a 3-0 thumping at home to West Ham. Only promoted sides Sunderland and Burnley have failed to score more than once against Forest on Postecoglou’s watch.
Three of his first six games in charge have seen the side concede three goals, including trips to Swansea and Arsenal. This Newcastle side are looking to get their season into full swing after some difficult tests and summer distractions. Sunday’s clash offers them the perfect opportunity.
Newcastle have won five of six Premier League meetings since Forest returned to the top flight. Last term, Howe’s side won 4-3 at home and 3-1 at the City Ground. With the visitors taking a step back defensively since then, over 1.5 goals for the hosts holds plenty of appeal.
