Newcastle and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Both sides are struggling for form but Newcastle should prove the stronger of the two. The hosts have won eight of their nine home league games this term, while Forest have lost six of their last seven league games. However, Newcastle head into this game with just two clean sheets across their last 11, so back Forest to score in a defeat days after a 3-2 home loss to Bournemouth.

Newcastle 2-1

Reason for tip

Newcastle are battling injuries so don’t expect them to put on much of a show during one of the most congested periods of the season. Half of Forest’s defeats on the road this term have come by a single goal, despite them seeing 2.89 goals per game on average away from home.

Anthony Gordon To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Anthony Gordon featured at the weekend despite injury issues and he can continue a great campaign with a goal against Forest. The winger has scored five of his six league games at St James’, while he has found the net in four of their last five home league matches.

Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest Predictions

  • Newcastle have won eight of their nine home league games this term
  • The Magpies have conceded in nine of their last 11 matches
  • Forest have been beaten in six of their last seven league games

Newcastle limp on

Newcastle head into the busiest spell of the season with a lengthy injury list, but their Boxing Day fixture looks like a welcome relief. The Magpies have been suffering thanks to their many absentees, winning just once across their last six. Tuesday pits them against a Nottingham Forest side who are in even worse shape, having lost six of their last seven.

Returning to St James’ Park is also a boost for the Magpies, who have won eight of their nine home league games this season. It should also suit winger Anthony Gordon, who has scored in four of his last five Premier League games at home. All but one of his league goals this season have come on Tyneside, so he can trouble a leaky Forest defence.

Clean sheets have also been an issue for Newcastle, who have conceded in all but two of their last 11. They meet a Forest side who lost 3-2 at home to Bournemouth in Nuno’s first game in charge, so a high-scoring victory for the Magpies is the best way to go in this one.
