Newport County vs Plymouth Argyle Predictions
The season may be young and have plenty of time to change, but already we are starting to get a good understanding of who are the leading lights in the division and who has to do more if they are going to maintain their spot in the Football League. This weekend sees two sides go head to head who have plenty to play for as league leaders Plymouth Argyle make the trip to Wales to face off against a Newport County side who know a win will help them kick start their campaign.
Following last season’s successes, expectations will have been raised a few notches for Newport County and with the season perhaps not starting the way they will have wished, their will be a sense of frustration around Rodney Parade at the moment. Newport have had to settle for a point in each of their opening two league matches so far this season and with the scores level against Gillingham in the Carabao Cup in midweek, they will be delighted to have progressed via the penalty shoot-out.
Making the trip to Rodney Parade is a Plymouth Argyle side who will be delighted with the form they have shown in the opening matches as they have won all three competitive fixtures and sit at the top of the league. The good news does not end there though, as along with qualification to the second round of the Carabao Cup, they have also proven their defensive steel and have won all three games without conceding a single goal.
The visitors are undoubtedly the ones to watch in the early stages of the season and a combination of their defensive strength and an excellent attacking unit is a deadly mix. Given that they have also got an excellent record in the head to head between these two sides, we think that backing an away win in this fixture is the only bet which makes sense.
