Lille can win on the road

Lille are in form and should be backed to continue their good run away at Nice on Sunday. There is a gulf between these teams in the standings, with Lille possessing a clear edge if the league table is any guide.

Lille finished last season with 61 points, having won 18 games, drawn seven and lost nine times. They are top of Ligue 1 this season with three wins and one draw from their four games. In contrast, Nice are bottom, having won none, drawn two and lost two.

Lille maintained their winning habit last weekend, beating Troyes 2-0 at home to make it two wins in the two matches in which they have been odds-on this season. Tiago Santos opened the scoring in the 18th minute and Ethan Mbappe doubled the lead late on. Lille restricted Troyes to one shot on target.

Lille have the best defence in Ligue 1, having conceded just two goals in four games this season. They have kept seven clean sheets in their last nine on the road. In contrast, Nice have failed to keep a clean sheet in six of their last eight league games.

Lille remain unbeaten after four Ligue 1 games this season.

The hosts’ struggles are compounded by a worrying run of form for Nice, who are without a win in 12 Ligue 1 games and have gone 13 matches at home without tasting victory.

Lille have won three of their last four Ligue 1 road games 1-0 and, with under 2.5 goals in eight of Nice’s last ten league games, a narrow Lille win looks on the cards.
