Hearts have a mountain to climb

It was all looking good for Hearts when Lawrence Shankland gave them a ninth-minute lead in the first leg of their Europa Conference League qualifier against PAOK Thessaloniki, but things soon turned sour for the Edinburgh outfit.

Their Greek Super League opponents left the Scottish capital with a 2-1 and they will be confident that they can press that advantage home now they are back on their own patch.

PAOK are undefeated this season and with eight goals in three successive home matches they will feel invincible, although it is worth chancing that they allow the Jambos to find the net before they kick on, so back the Greeks to win but with both teams scoring.

Jambos can still make their mark

Hearts’ league season has yet to catch light as they have gained four points from their opening three games and there have to be concerns that a 2-0 win at St Johnstone has been the only success they have gained on their travels in their last ten outings.

That does not bode well for this trip, but they are capable of finding the net as they showed in a 3-1 defeat at Celtic and a 2-2 draw at Rangers towards the end of last season.

PAOK could afford them opportunities before slamming the door so correct-score enthusiasts may wish to have a bet on a 3-1 final scoreline.
