Partick Thistle vs Celtic Predictions

  • Partick Thistle have conceded at least once in every single game this season, letting in an average of two goals per game.
  • Celtic have won to nil in eight of their last 10 games in the Scottish FA Cup, scoring at least twice.
  • The Hoops have scored an average of 2.5 goals in their last eight away games.

Partick with a Thistle in their spine

Partick Thistle will host reigning champions Celtic in what is their most difficult game of the season so far. The Jags made it to the fourth round of this competition after beating Penicuik Athletic 1-0 back in November. The new year hasn’t been too good for the Glasgow club, though, as they’ve picked up a draw and a heavy 4-1 defeat to Dundee United.

Ian McCall’s men have also struggled at Firhill, where they’ve only won two of the 10 games played there. Thistle have also conceded an average of two goals per home tie, while only managing to bag 11 in their 10 games. Moreover, the club have failed to keep a clean sheet all season.

Solid Celts on the road

Despite finishing their year off on a low thanks to their 2-1 home defeat to Rangers, Celtic will come into this game eager to make it through to the next round of this competition. The Hoops haven’t failed to progress in the Scottish FA Cup since April 2016.

Neil Lennon’s side are also in great form away from home, where they’ve managed to win seven of their last eight fixtures on the road, accumulating 20 goals in their favour and only conceding seven times. Moreover, Celtic have scored at least twice in six of those eight matches.

Reigning champions to progress

While this may be a glamour tie for Partick Thistle, the reality is they’re currently fighting for survival in the Championship and will more than likely be unable to cause Celtic any damage.

The Jags are yet to keep a clean sheet in any competition and the Hoops have been devastating on the road in recent months, which is why we’re backing Celtic -2 for this game, as they have scored 2.5 goals in their last eight away ties and have won by at least two goals on six occasions.

We’re also going for a final score of 3-0 to the Hoops, as they’ve also won to nil in eight of their last 10 Scottish cup games, as well as always scoring at least twice.
