Partick vs St Johnstone Predictions

Partick managed to keep the points trickling in on Saturday as they drew 0-0 with Inverness CT, following on from a 4-0 hammering of Formatine United in the Scottish FA Cup last weekend. They have now won three, drawn two, and lost one of their last six outings in all competitions.

This is a welcome break, considering their previous form was five defeats and two draws in seven games, and it’s pushed them up to 6th in the Scottish Premiership table. They are by no means safe yet though, as bottom of the table Inverness are only six points behind them.

Above them they can just about make out St Johnstone, who are one position above them but sit on a comfortably eight point cushion as they look to break into the Premiership top four. Hearts are only ahead of them on goal difference, so it’s a very real possibility.

The visitors clinched a clinical 3-0 win at home to Hamilton on Saturday to make it four wins, three draws, and two defeats in their last nine outings in all competitions. Away from home they have only won two of their last seven, but that does include matches against Celtic, Aberdeen, Rangers, and Hearts.

Partick have lost four of their last seven on home soil as well, drawing once and winning twice. They have conceded  13 goals in this spell as well, so the likes of Danny Swanson and Steven MacLean will be looking forward to this match. The two have 13 league goals between them, and either look like good options for our anytime goalscorer predictions.

Whatever goals there are in this game are likely to come in the second half though. St Johnstone have scored a huge 20 of their 28 league goals after the break this season, with 16 of them coming in the final half an hour. Partick have conceded 11 of their 16 home goals in the second half as well, so backing St Johnstone Highest Scoring Half – 2nd at 6/4 looks an extremely good value bet here. This is especially true given that they have failed to score in the first half in 54% of their away games this season and are yet to net more than once before the break. I’m also backing a 2-1 win for the visitors at 17/2 for my correct score predictions.
