Port Vale vs Lincoln City Predictions
We may still be early in the League Two season but it is hard for fans of Lincoln City not to be excited about their team following an excellent start to the campaign. The league leaders were well fancied at the start of the campaign and they have so far proved those predictions to be well founded, but this weekend they face the difficult prospect of travelling to a Port Vale side who will be determined for the three points in order to kick start their campaign.
Port Vale have picked up just one point from their last three games and will need a big improvement against the League 2 pacesetters. Neil Aspin’s men were able to build some confidence in the Checkatrade Trophy midweek as they triumphed over Burton Albion with a narrow 1-0 victory, but in truth their form has not matched expectations. Vale were thought to be strong enough to challenge for the play-off places but defeats to Grimsby and the MK Dons in their last two league matches means they are already off the pace.
Leaders Lincoln City have won four of their last five League 2 games to open up a four-point cushion over the chasing pack. The Imps fought off plenty of interest in Danny Cowley over the summer and the early signs are that those efforts will not go unrewarded as Cowley has built a strong squad which looks to have the capabilities to go all the way this term. City are strong on home soil, but they have claimed 13 points on the road so far and have the best away record in the division.
A look at the form book shows that Lincoln City should not have too many problems in adding to their tally this weekend and those thoughts are only strengthened when we look at what happened last time these two sides met as the Imps dominated in a 4-0 victory. With this in mind, it should come as a shock to nobody to learn that we are backing an away win in this fixture.
