Port Vale vs Notts County Predictions
Port Vale take on Notts County at Vale Park on Saturday in a clash between two League Two clubs at the opposite ends of the form spectrum.
Port Vale, who currently sit in 14th spot in the table, have been steadily climbing the standings after a string of impressive performances. The Valiants are in the midst of a four-match unbeaten run and have lost just once in six overall.
Defensively they have been superb since the early weeks of October, and in that same set of six fixtures, Vale kept an incredible five clean sheets. In fact, Neil Aspin’s men have now gone 360 minutes without shipping a goal.
In contrast, their productivity at the other end of the pitch has been found wanting, though their robust displays at the rear have so far compensated for their lack of cutting edge in forward areas.
Vale have only registered four goals in their last four games in all, netting two against Middlesbrough’s U21s in the EFT Cup, and one each against Oldham and Bury respectively in League Two.
While the scarcity of goals is likely to be a worry for Neil Aspin, Port Vale are unlikely to need many to beat a Notts County team who have lost four game on the bounce.
County find themselves in the drop zone, 3rd from bottom having won just three of their first fifteen league matches of the season so far. Harry Kewell’s men seemed to have turned a corner last month when they went five unbeaten between the end of September and the early weeks of October, but since their last win at Macclesfield nearly four week ago, their form has fallen off a cliff.
County’s self-belief will have been considerably eroded after four defeats in succession and their overall away record this season will compound their misery further. Notts County have the second worst record on the road in League Two, having amassed just four points from the twenty-four available.
With that appalling record considered, we’re tipping Notts County to come undone again against a red-hot Port Vale side on Saturday. Vale’s modest goal scoring numbers suggest that this weekend’s clash is set to be a low scoring one however.
100% of their last four matches finished with under 2.5 goals scored in them. For that reason, we recommend taking the home win and under 2.5 goal combo to boost your odds. Our correct score prediction is tipping Port Vale to win 1-0, a scoreline that would match the ones the Valiants achieved in their recent triumphs over Oldham and Bury.
