PSG vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions
- Tottenham have only won three of their last 11 games
- PSG have won 13 of their 17 matches this term
- PSG’s four Champions League games have produced 19 goals
Tottenham struggling
Tottenham were humiliated 4-1 by their rivals Arsenal at the weekend and things don’t get much easier as they visit Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Spurs have now won just three of their last 11 outings, with those victories coming against Copenhagen, Everton and Leeds.
Thomas Frank’s side have suffered defeats to Newcastle, Aston Villa and Chelsea in that run and need to turn things around sooner rather than later.
Tottenham are dogged by injuries, with eight first-team players missing the defeat against Arsenal, but they also showed a lack of ambition against the Gunners.
They played with a back five and managed just three shots all game, with their goal a spectacular long-range effort from Richarlison.
One positive for Spurs is that they are unbeaten in their four Champions League games, beating Villarreal and Copenhagen and drawing with Monaco and Bodo/Glimt.
This is undoubtedly the toughest challenge of their eight league stage fixtures however, taking on the reigning Champions League winners in their own back yard.
They almost shocked these opponents in the UEFA Super Cup final earlier this year but let a two-goal lead slip with five minutes to go before losing on penalties.
PSG to record high-scoring win
Paris Saint-Germain have won three of their four European fixtures this season but are fresh from a 2-1 home defeat to Bayern Munich in a blockbuster clash earlier this month.
Luis Enrique’s side had scored 13 goals in wins over Atalanta, Barcelona and Bayer Leverkusen before that and have been in typically dominant domestic form too.
PSG top Ligue 1 after winning nine of their opening 13 league matches, although Marseille and Lens are in hot pursuit.
The hosts are fancied to put an injury-hot Tottenham side to the sword and could further increase Thomas Frank’s woes with a high-scoring success.
PSG’s four Champions League games have produced a whopping 19 goals and the Parisians are taken to win a match which also produces over 2.5 goals.
Barcola could star
The defending champions have not been perfect defensively, with both teams scoring in three of their four European matches, and Spurs should be more proactive than they were against Arsenal.
They will also look to unsettle the home side from set plays, which is one area where Premier League teams have had an advantage over their continental counterparts in European competition this season.
Five of PSG’s last eight games have seen them score at least three goals, take a 3-1 home win for correct score purposes.
Bradley Barcola has scored five goals in all competitions this term and could add to that tally in this one.
