PSV Reserves vs FC Volendam Predictions
Jong PSV have so far failed to build on their excellent 5th place finish last term, and they head into this Friday’s game against Volendam 14th in the table after accruing just five points from their first five outings. After suffering mixed emotions in a thriller against NEC last week, can Dennis Haar’s young side kick start their campaign on match day six?
Jong PSV were involved in a real rollercoaster of a match in Nijmegen last time out, and it’s hard to know just how Haar’s squad will be feeling after leaving Goffertstadion with a 4-4 draw.
They looked dead and buried early in the game after Sven Braken netted a double for the hosts, but remarkably scored the next four goals, which included a brace from Bart Ramselaar, to take a 2-4 lead.
The drama wasn’t over though, and NEC fought back to claim a point thanks mainly to a Josef Kvida goal deep into stoppage time. A point was more than Jong probably expected from that fixture, but to have the win stolen at the death has to hurt.
Nothing has really been going right for Haar’s side after away defeats to Jong Utrecht (3-2) and TOP Oss (4-1) in the first few weeks of the campaign, but they have a great opportunity this Friday to secure their first victory since beating cross city rivals FC Eindhoven 2-1 at Sportcomplex De Herdgang on the opening night.
Volendam are languishing in 18th after just two draws from their five matches to date, and Misha Salden’s side look destined to be scrapping it out at the bottom of the table for the majority of the season.
They’ve lost both of their away trips without scoring a goal (3-0 vs Go Ahead Eagles, 2-0 vs Sparta Rotterdam) and have scored just two goals in total from five fixtures.
Jong PSV have won four and drawn one of the teams’ five previous meetings in Eindhoven – and there’s little to suggest that Volendam can improve that record on match day six, despite Jong’s indifferent start.
Volendam have lost their last six Eerste Divisie games on the road, whilst Jong PSV have won 12 and drawn five of their last 21 at home.
The facts all point to a win this Friday for Dennis Haar’s charges at fair odds, and we think the hosts can get their season up and running with a straightforward 2-0 victory.
