PSV Reserves vs Go Ahead Eagles Predictions

A late strike from Oss talisman Huseyin Dogan condemned Go Ahead Eagles to their third league defeat of the campaign at De Adelaarshorst last week, but the Deventer outfit maintain a share of the Eerste Divisie lead heading into their clash with Jong PSV on match day 16 following other results falling their way. Eagles are favourites to win this one, but they’re seeking to beat Jong PSV for the first time after little joy in four previous meetings.

These sides only have a short history with Go Ahead taking on the senior PSV Eindhoven team for the majority of their years, but it’s one in which Eagles have suffered  pretty badly.

Eagles have only claimed a solitary point from four previous meetings with Jong, and were hammered 6-0 at De Herdgang last term in a game that was, thankfully for Go Ahead, called off a few minutes short of full time due to adverse weather conditions.

Nonetheless, this is a completely different Go Ahead team this season and they fully deserve to be in a share of the lead at the top of the table with Den Bosch and Sparta Rotterdam going into round 16.

Sparta well and truly fluffed their lines in a 3-0 defeat to bottom club Helmond Sport on Friday evening, so both Go Ahead and Den Bosch have the chance to take advantage on Monday night with the latter taking on Jong Utrecht at Sportpark De Westmaat.

Eagles have clearly got the tougher assignment out of the pair here, and things haven’t exactly been good for the Deventer outfit of late with an away loss to Telstar (2-1) also suffered in November.

Go Ahead have bounced back though from their prior disappointments this term, and you can be sure that boss John Stegeman will be going all out for the victory in this one instead of looking to steady the ship with a point.

Jong have only been beaten once in seven outings mind at De Herdgang this season, and that was by Den Bosch on match day 12 which is no great disgrace as the Blue White Dragons were amidst a terrific eight match winning streak.

Jong have beaten Jong AZ (3-1), defending champion Jong Ajax (2-1), Volendam (1-0) and cross-city rivals FC Eindhoven at home this season, and their form in front of their own supporters has helped them to claw their way up to 9th in the standings after a relatively poor start to the campaign.

Repeating their 5th place finish in 2017/18 looks a tall order for Dennis Haar’s team, but as last week’s 0-0 draw at Sparta proves, they’re a side that cannot be taken lightly.

We think this one is a really close call based on current form and our recommended bet is a draw with Jong’s home advantage likely to make up for the slight gap in quality between the sides.

It’s a result that probably suits neither, but ultimately we see both teams cancelling each other out and a 1-1 draw is our correct score prediction.
