Rangers vs Rapid Vienna Predictions

Scottish Premiership side Rangers take on Austrian outfit Rapid Vienna in this exciting looking Europa League group stage clash at Ibrox. Rangers started their campaign impressively with a superb 2-2 away draw against a strong Villarreal side, whilst Rapid Vienna kicked off with a straight forward 2-0 home victory against Russian side Spartak Moscow.

Rangers have been heavily involved in the Europa League already this season, with qualifiers this will be their 10th game in the competition. They are unbeaten in their 9 Europa League games so far this season with 5 draws and 4 wins. Their home form has been excellent, winning 3 of their 4 home games in the competition and drawing 1. Rangers have had a slightly disappointing start to their league campaign as they sit in 6th position. They won’t be too worried at this early stage as the Champions are only sitting in 5th and 2 points ahead. Hearts are the runaway leaders at the moment but it’s hard to see them keep that up till the end of the season.

Rapid Vienna haven’t had to play as many Europa League qualifiers so this will be their 6th game of their campaign. They lost both of their away qualifiers 2-1 but managed to win both of their home games 4-0 and 3-1. They started their group stage well as they beat a strong Spartak Moscow side 2-0 at Allianz Stadion. Their Austrian Bundesliga campaign hasn’t got off to the best of starts as they sit way down in 8th place with just 9 points from their opening 9 games.

Rangers have been in good scoring form since Steven Gerrard took over at Ibrox, particularly at home. They are unbeaten at home with 7 wins and 1 draw from their 8 competitive games and will see this as another very winnable game. Rangers have scored 22 goals in those 8 games, averaging a whopping 2.75 goals per game. They have been good defensively too, conceding just 3 goals and keeping 5 clean sheets.

Rapid Vienna struggle on the road in competitive games, they haven’t won away in 6 competitive games, however goals have been a plenty with both teams to score landing in all of those 6 games. This will present an even tougher task as Rangers are in fine form in front of their home support.

Rapid Vienna are good on home soil but when away they are a different entity completely, they struggle playing away from home in Austria as it is and have had their problems in the Europa League so far, losing both of their away qualifiers. Rangers are in excellent form as aforementioned with 7 wins from their 8 home competitive games and we think they have enough to beat Rapid Vienna at Ibrox. We do think the away side are good for a goal and a 3-1 correct score looks appealing here.
