Honours even in Champions League first leg

Rapid Vienna come into this game off the back of a 6-0 domestic cup win over Wiener Viktoria and a run of five friendly games without a loss. This will be their first really competitive fixture this season though and they will have to get off to a good start to the season if they hope to compete in the Champions League this season.

Sparta Prague have also finished an intensive friendly programme in the off season, winning five of their seven games and scoring 28 goals along the way. They won the Czech first division at a canter last season and if they can replicate that form in this tie, they will cause their Austrian opposition some real issues.

This looks as though it could be a really tight game with neither side looking particularly stronger than the other. Both sides are strong in attack though and, because of that, we’re backing both teams to score in this game. There should be plenty of action at either end and with 45 goals between them in pre-season friendlies this summer, we’re confident both teams will get themselves on the scoresheet.

It’s hard to pick a winner from the two sides though and we’re sitting firmly on the fence by predicting a draw in this first leg. Whilst we think both teams will net, we think there will still be some caution with the second leg still to come and we’re forecasting a 1-1 final score in this game.
