Differing preparations could be key in Wroclaw

Chelsea began their UEFA Conference League campaign as heavy favourites to lift the trophy in Wroclaw, and little has changed ahead of Wednesday’s final, but Real Betis may be able to spring a surprise on Enzo Maresca’s side.

Los Verdiblancos ended their domestic campaign with a 1-1 draw against Valencia on Friday. With nothing to play for, Manuel Pellegrini was afforded the opportunity to rest some key players ahead of Wednesday’s showdown, and that, along with the two extra days of preparation, could prove a key factor on Wednesday evening.

Enzo Maresca was given no such luxury as his Chelsea side visited Nottingham Forest for a final-day showdown in the race for a top-five berth on Sunday. The Blues won that game 1-0 and head into the UEFA Conference League final in good form, but it comes just 76 hours after their tense battle at The City Ground.

To add to Chelsea’s difficulties, La Liga’s sixth-place finishers have put in some excellent performances against the stronger teams in the division this season, losing just two of their ten meetings with the teams that finished above them and registering wins against Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid.

They have lost just two of their last 20 games in all competitions, making them a solid bet in the double chance market. Four of their last five outings have ended all square, though, and with Chelsea scoring exactly once in three of their last four games, a tenth 1-1 draw of the season for Real Betis could be the way to go in the correct score market.
