Real Sociedad to Win

Reason for tip

Real Sociedad have won their last three La Liga games and their last three against Almeria in all competitions. The home side will be boosted by the return of top defender Robin Le Normand after suspension, which should enable them to inflict another defeat on La Liga’s worst team.

Real Sociedad 1-0

Reason for tip

Almeria have lost 12 of their last 14 away La Liga games, but only three by more than one goal. That suggests another close clash could be possible. Real Sociedad have kept 12 clean sheets this term and are one of the defensive outfits in Spain on their day, so a 1-0 home victory appears to fit the characteristics of both clubs.

San Sebastian clash may not be a classic

Real Sociedad welcome La Liga’s basement club Almeria to San Sebastian on Sunday for a clash which could be more of a grind than many expect.

The hosts are the hot favourites to pick up all three points and they should have no excuses after sought-after centre-back Robin Le Normand returns from suspension.

The Frenchman returns to a winning team that has picked up all nine points from the last three games against struggling Granada, Cadiz and mid-table Alaves. But the victory in Vitoria will not live long in the memory as the match produced only three shots on target – all to Imanol Alguacil’s visitors.

Ruthless Real can get it done against battling Almeria

La Real were ruthlessly efficient in their previous home game against Cadiz, scoring twice from only six shots on target while restricting their opponents to very few opportunities. And this game may go the same way with Almeria unlikely to open up until they really have to.

Pepe Mel’s team picked up their first away win in La Liga this season at Las Palmas around a month ago. But that was only brief respite from a horrible campaign in which they have lost 12 of their 15 road trips as they were then trounced 3-0 at home by Osasuna in their next match.

Confidence remains fairly low in the camp, but they still have some fight in them and a record of losing only three away games by more than a goal this season suggests they can run Real Sociedad close.
