Roda JC vs FC Volendam Predictions

Roda JC moved up one spot to 6^th in the table on match day 17, but boss Robert Molenaar will have been far from happy with his side’s 2-2 draw at home to lowly Dordrecht. Roda squandered a two goal lead at Parkstad Limburg Stadion, and return there this Friday with a point to prove against 14^th placed Volendam.

After tremendous 3-0 and 0-5 successes against Telstar and Oss respectively, Roda JC were flying heading into last week’s fixture against Dordrecht at Parkstad Limburg Stadion, and looked set to record a third consecutive league win when goals from Nicky Souren and Gyliano van Velzen put them 2-0 up just 20 minutes in.

But Robert Molenaar’s side failed to kill off 17^th placed Schapenkoppen, who remarkably hit back with two late goals to leave Kerkrade with a precious point.

The result epitomised Roda’s season so far which has been full of set-backs, as just when Molenaar’s men threaten to go on a long winning run, they come unstuck when it is least expected.

They’ve squandered points from winning positions on several occasions now, and it’s really interesting that they’ve posted just eight victories in total this term, despite finding themselves behind just once at half time in 17 games (no other team has been in the same/fewer losing positions at the break this season).

So there are clear reliability issues for anyone looking to support Roda from a betting perspective, and generally they have been a team to swerve this season when a short price, as they are for this Friday’s encounter against Volendam.

However, they’ll fancy their chances of putting things right in front of their own supporters in this one, with Volendam struggling on the road throughout the campaign so far.

Palingboeren have won just one of their eight away games, losing four, and they go into this week’s clash in a bit of a hole following a 5-1 bashing at NEC on match day 16 and a 1-2 reversal at home to Twente last week.

Volendam had previously gone unbeaten in nine league matches under the guidance of Hans De Koning, but those results and performances indicate that the honeymoon period for their new boss is well and truly over.

Palingboeren have been shuffled back down to 14^th as a result of their disappointing fortnight, and although it’s likely they’ll prove better than that in the weeks and months ahead, they don’t really warrant support here at around 12/5 based on their away record and recent efforts.

So although we’re not mad on the hosts here after they threw two points away last week, they still look the most likely winners having triumphed in four of their last half dozen Eerste Divisie games, and we’re going for Molenaar’s side to win with both teams to score, for small stakes.

Volendam have netted in each of their last five away games, so they can easily score again here against a Roda side that have conceded ten in their eight home fixtures, but we’re going for a 2-1 scoreline at full time in favour of the Kerkrade outfit.
