Romania vs Chile Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Having missed out on a place at the upcoming World Cup, Romania come here in relatively good form. Cosmin Contra’s men got over a loss against Holland by beating Israel away from home back in March, while they followed that victory with another win against Sweden, winning by a goal to nil. After a couple of pleasing results, Tricolorii will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce.

Chile also left their disappointing World Cup qualification campaign behind them in March when they went and got the better of Sweden away from home, though they were less impressive when drawing 0-0 against Denmark shortly after. Reinaldo Rueda’s side is not short of quality, though they do sometimes struggle to put their best foot forward. With no World Cup to look forward to, it will be interesting to see which Chile side turns up in Graz on Thursday afternoon.

Other than when they lost against Netherlands, in what was a match where the result told anything but the whole story, Romania have acquitted themselves well from an offensive point of view of late. In notching twice against Israel back in March, Contra’s side were positive in possession, looked to get forward and, crucially, were both creative and productive in the final third. They weren’t quite as impressive against deep-lying Sweden next time out, but they still managed to get on the score-sheet. Breaching a Chile team who are susceptible to the counter could easily be within Romania’s grasp.

Like the hosts, Chile also managed to breach Sweden recently, and were probably even more impressive in doing so. The South Americans did fail to score against Denmark last time out, but there was still plenty to like about their intent and general forward play. In truth, a similar performance against a Romanian outfit who, for all they have done better offensively in recent times, aren’t the hardest team to score against would likely see the Chileans do well going forward.

Aside from their most recent performances, friendlies in general have seemingly treated this pair well in terms of goals scored. Romania have scored in all but one of their last five international friendly matches, notching a total of eight goals during that time. Similarly, Chile have found the back of the net in four of their last five friendlies, scoring a total of eight all told in those five.

What’s more, when these two faced each other less than a year ago, the pair found attacking joy easy to come by, as they played out an entertaining five-goal thriller.

Given what the pair have shown offensively in recent times, coupled with how the last game between the two panned out, at the prices, ‘Both Teams to Score’ makes plenty of appeal.
