San Marino vs Russia Predictions
San Marino bring an end to yet another poor campaign, as they are set for the 10th defeat in this qualifying campaign. They head into this meeting with Russia sitting bottom of the table, while Russia are packing their bags for the Euros, with more home games at a major tournament to come. They are heavy favourites to round off an impressive qualifying campaign with three points here.
The hosts are on a long-running losing streak, which has seen them beaten in their last 36 outings. That poor record has obviously left Russia as the favourites for this one, while San Marino only just scored for the first time in this group at the weekend. With yet another year of losses ahead of them, San Marino have been priced out with the bookies to get anything here.
As for Russia, it’s been another great year following on from their World Cup. They impressed in the Nations League in late 2018, while they stormed to second in this group with seven victories in nine matches this year. They have been great in a poor group, which has set them up for another tournament where they will play at home. All they need to do now is round off a good year with another victory.
We expect Russia to pull off a comfortable win in this clash. They hammered San Marino 9-0 when the pair last met, while Russia’s last away game saw them hit five goals away at Cyprus. Add to that their 4-0 hammering of Kazakhstan on the road and there’s some impressive away from for the visitors to build on this week.
We doubt that San Marino will have much resistance to Russia’s high scoring attack, especially having gone on such a long losing run. Russia were able to win 7-0 in their last trip to a minnow, which came at Liechtenstein in their last qualifying campaign. Now we’re backing them to pull off another thumping win, as we are backing Russia with a -5 handicap here.
We are also going for a 7-0 victory for Russia, having seen them ship nine against Russia last time out. their previous qualifying campaign saw them ship eight on two occasions, while Russia should be up for adding a little more gloss to their goal tally on Tuesday night. We think it’ll be a comfortable win for the visitors and San Marino could be on course for their worst home defeat of the group, which has us tipping a 7-0 away win as our correct score pick.
