Senegal vs Sudan Predictions

Senegal unlikely to be troubled by Sudan

Senegal take on Sudan in the last 16 of AFCON on Saturday in what should be a straightforward assignment for Pape Thiaw’s side.

The Lions of Teranga claimed seven points from their three group games and were unlucky to only draw with DR Congo.

Thiaw was able to rotate his side for the final group game against Benin and they still claimed a 3-0 win, and they can overcome Sudan without conceding.

Sudan lost to Burkina Faso and Algeria without scoring and reached the knockout stages by virtue of a slightly fortuitous 1-0 win over Equatorial Guinea. They have perhaps overachieved by just reaching this point of the competition and as they have scored just two goals in their last six games they are unlikely to cause Senegal too many issues on Saturday.

Senegal won 2-0 when these sides met in World Cup qualifying in September and can go one better this weekend. They have two 3-0 wins already at AFCON and can pick up a third here as they have hit at least three goals in six of their last eight games.

Nicolas Jackson remained on the bench against Benin but should return to the starting XI for Senegal on Saturday. The Bayern forward has two AFCON goals to his name so far and can add to his haul against the lowest ranked side remaining in the tournament.
