Birmingham vs Sheffield United Predictions

  • Three goals or more have been scored in eight of the last nine home Championship games for Birmingham City.
  • Sheffield United have conceded at least two goals in three of their last five away Championship fixtures.
  • Birmingham City have scored ten and conceded 14 goals in their last six Championship matches combined.

Goals on the cards at St Andrew’s

Goals backers might see some value in Friday night’s Championship clash between Birmingham City and Sheffield United st St Andrew’s. The hosts have seen an average of four goals per game scored in their last six outings and come into this clash with playoff-chasing Sheffield United on the back of consecutive 2-2 draws.

The Blades kept a clean sheet in a comfortable win at Peterborough last time out, but their defence was found wanting at Preston the time before. In that 2-2 Deepdale draw, United shipped twice for a third time in four matches – so there may be opportunities for the Blues to exploit there on Friday.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side are seven points off the playoff positions with two games in hand on Middlesbrough in sixth, so this is a fixture they will feel they need to win. But they will have to do it without striker Rhian Brewster, who sustained another hamstring injury against Posh, and possibly Iliman Ndiaye, who picked up a knock.

Bowyer has plenty of firepower

That would leave the Blades’ frontline lacking in pace for this game and may force them to take more risks to catch the hosts out. Our view is that the price for over 2.5 goals is worth taking here – particularly given Birmingham’s record of goals at both ends in their last six games.

Lee Bowyer has a wealth of firepower to call upon after adding Lyle Taylor on loan from Nottingham Forest and Juninho Bacuna from Rangers recently. Scott Hogan has been firing of late and Onel Hernandez has pace and directness that can give defenders nightmares.

Noting that the Blues have had back-to-back 2-2 draws in the past week and that the Blades and Preston played out another recently, that is the scoreline that appeals the most in correct score betting.
