Lorient vs Lens Predictions
- Five of Lorient’s last six matches have seen both teams score
- Lens have seen both teams net in four successive away matches
- Lens have lost just one of their 14 fixtures on the road this season
Inconsistent Lorient looking for a boost
It’s nearly 22 years since Lorient had their finest hour, lifting the 2000/01 Coupe de France, but their history in this cup of late has been poor, failing to reach the quarter-finals since 2015/16.
That year, ‘Les Merlus’ were beaten in the semis by PSG, but they would qualify for the last eight here by defeating Lens.
Régis Le Bris’ side have been inconsistent of late, winning just one of their last six matches, and only keeping one clean sheet in the process, that coming in a 0-0 draw with Angers at the weekend.
Both teams have netted in five of those half a dozen outings, as they have in eight of their 11 fixtures at Stade du Moustoir this season, with three of those matches ending in defeat.
Lens running out of steam?
Lens, three times Coupe de France runners up, are another team in need of a win, as they have slipped to third in Ligue 1 after drawing 1-1 at Troyes and Brest, either side of a 1-0 defeat at home to Nice.
Franck Haise’s side are struggling defensively, keeping only two clean sheets in their last eight outings, with both teams netting in five of those games.
They are tough to beat on the road though, losing just once in 14 fixtures in 2022/23, with half of those matches, including the last four, seeing both teams net.
I predict that both teams will score in this game, but it will be tight, with 2-1 to Lens my correct score prediction.
