- Sheffield United have lost 20 out of 25 league fixtures this season.
- Liverpool have won each of their last three meetings with the Blades.
- Liverpool have kept just one clean sheet in their last 11 league games on the road.
- Both teams scored when Sheffield United last faced Liverpool in October.
Blades’ revival hits a wall
A run of three straight defeats has taken the wind out of Sheffield United’s sails and having briefly threatened to launch a late charge for survival, the Blades are once again cut adrift at the foot of the table.
United’s 1-0 loss at fellow bottom feeders Fulham last week felt like the end of their short rally, and with a huge 14-point chasm between them and safety, their demotion back to the Championship looks all but sealed.
Chris Wilder won’t allow his troops to exit the division with a whimper however, and Liverpool will have to work hard to wrangle three points out of their trip to Bramall Lane.
Liverpool licking their wounds
Liverpool’s Premier League nightmare continued when they lost at home to Merseyside rivals Everton for the first time since 1999 last week in a reverse that pushed their losing streak to four games.
The Reds also set another unwanted record by losing for the fourth straight league fixture at Anfield for the first time since 1923, and with their title already relinquished, there is a real chance that Liverpool could also lose out on a place in the top four if their form doesn’t improve.
Liverpool to bounce back
With critics taking shots and Liverpool looking vulnerable, the dethroned champions will be desperate to muster a response, and the Reds should be able to bounce back at Sheffield United’s expense.
The Blades have lost 20 out of 25 league matches this season, and Liverpool have enjoyed a 100% winning record against them since Sheffield United’s promotion in 2019.
Jurgen Klopp still has major issues at centre-half to contend with however and dodgy-looking loan signing Ozan Kabak could be partnered with the inexperienced Nathaniel Philipps at the heart of their rearguard on Sunday.
Sheffield United could have chances to register as a result, and that in turn makes the Liverpool and both teams to score combination a tempting prospect at the prices quoted, while our 2-1 correct score prediction tips the Merseysiders to hit a brace against the Blades for the third time in a row.
Sheffield United injuries and team news
Sheffield United have major issues at the back with John Egan, Jack O’Connell and Jack Robinson all out injured and Chris Basham rated as doubtful.
Further up the pitch, the Blades will also be without Sander Berge in midfield, while striker Lys Mousset is also touch and go.
Liverpool injuries and team news
Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are all long term absentees for Liverpool, though the Reds added Jams Milner and Jordan Henderson to their injury list more recently.
Diogo Jota is back in training however, while Fabinho is also hoping to feature. Alisson could miss out however, following the tragic passing of his father.
