Sheffield United vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

  • Sheffield United have lost 15 of their 18 league fixtures this season.
  • Tottenham have conceded just seven goals in eight Premier League away assignments this term.
  • Sheffield United are the division’s lowest scorers this season.
  • Tottenham have lost just once in eight Premier League away fixtures since the summer.

Blades finally bag first win

After six miserable months and 17 games without success, rock bottom Sheffield United finally found their first Premier League win of the campaign on Tuesday evening, though the Blades aren’t fancied to follow their victory with another against Spurs on Sunday.

Chris Wilder’s relegation favourites needed a contentious penalty to topple 10-man Newcastle at Bramall Lane, though United were long overdue a stroke of fortune after their luckless first half of the season.

Despite their mid-week heroics, the Blades remain cut adrift at the foot of the league table however, a full nine points from the safety of 17th place.

Spurs slip-up

Tottenham’s hastily rearranged fixture against Fulham on Wednesday didn’t quite go to plan, and having plundered an early opener through Harry Kane, Spurs failed to press home their advantage against a dogged Cottagers outfit.

Jose Mourinho’s risk averse approach saw his team drop deep to defend their lead against Fulham, who were brave enough to push on in pursuit of an equalizer that eventually arrived with 15 minutes to play through Ivan Cavaleiro.

Spurs have now dropped points in six of their last eight Premier League assignments and grumbles about Mourinho’s reluctance to take the shackles of his talented team are becoming more audible.

Spurs’ prices still attractive

Luckily for Mourinho, Tottenham won’t need to be at their clinical best to beat the Premier League’s worst team on Sunday, and there remains enough value in backing Spurs to win to keep punters interested.

Sheffield United needed a red card and penalty to end their six-month wait for a win on Tuesday, though their chances of enjoying a similar double-dose of luck this weekend are slim to none.

Instead, Tottenham should end their four-match winless run on the road at Bramall Lane, where either Harry Kane or Son Heung-min will likely finish off one of the contest’s few chances.

Tottenham are conceding less than a goal a game away from North London this season, and they should find protecting a lead a little easier against the Premier League’s lowest scorers on Sunday.

Sheffield United injuries and team news

Sander Berge, Jack Robinson, Oliver McBurnie and Jack O’Connell are all ruled out and will miss Sunday’s game.

Chris Wilder could choose to keep faith with the same team that secured the Blades’ first win of the campaign in mid-week.

Tottenham Hotspur injuries and team news

Giovani Lo Celso is Tottenham’s only confirmed absentee from what will be a strong squad on Sunday.

Steven Bergwijn is carrying a knock, though the Dutch winger will expect to make the squad.

Jose Mourinho could be tempted to make a change or two to his team after their disappointing showing against Fulham.
