Sunderland to Win

Reason for tip

Sheffield Wednesday are yet to win a competitive game in regulation time this season and have lost six of their eight Championship outings. Sunderland have won three of their last four games and each of their last two on the road.

Sunderland 3-1

Reason for tip

Sunderland’s last two away games have both ended in 3-1 victories and Sheffield Wednesday have lost three of their four Championship home games this season, although they have scored exactly once in two of these matches.

Jack Clarke To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Jack Clarke is Sunderland’s top scorer this season with five Championship goals. He has scored four of these in his last four appearances and can find his way onto the scoresheet at Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Sunderland Predictions

  • Sheffield Wednesday have taken just two points from eight Championship games this season.
  • Sunderland have won their last two away games by a 3-1 scoreline.
  • Jack Clarke has scored four goals in his last four appearances.

Black Cats set to bounce back

Sunderland’s five-game unbeaten run came to an abrupt end at home to Cardiff last weekend but the Black Cats will be confident of a return to winning ways against rock-bottom strugglers Sheffield Wednesday.

The visitors, who sit fifth in the Championship table, were disappointing last time out but had won their previous three games in style, scoring 11 goals and conceding just twice against Southampton, QPR and Blackburn. They have won their last two away games by 3-1 scorelines and I expect something similar at Hillsborough on Friday.

Clarke to pile misery on winless Wednesday

The Owls have endured a difficult start to life back in the second tier and head into gameweek nine bottom of the table and already four points adrift of safety. They have picked up just two points from eight games and are yet to win a competitive game in regulation time.

Xisco Munoz’s job already hangs in the balance and, after shipping three at Swansea last weekend, another defeat and a third-successive 3-1 away win for Sunderland looks good value for money.

Jack Clarke represents solid value in the anytime goalscorer market, too. The 22-year-old is Sunderland’s top scorer this season with five goals from the left, four of which have come in his last four appearances.
