Sheffield Wednesday vs Wolves Predictions
Wednesday come into this game in 6th place, which is exactly where they finished last year. They look like strong play-off contenders again and with inconsistent Wolves in town, the Owls look the more likely victors here.
They’ve taken 10 points from their past 4 games so their form is good and they again boast a very strong home record. They’ve won an impressive 73% of their matches at Hillsborough this season including 4 of the last 5. They’ve been pushed close by a lot of teams in Sheffield this term but have usually found a way to edge tight matches, although they’ve often left it late. They’ve scored in the final 15 minutes of all of their last 3 home games and netted a stoppage time winner last time out against Rotherham.
Wolves are a bit of a difficult side to read and even since Paul Lambert has taken over their performances and results have been mixed. They’ve won 3 of their last 6 games but had gone 9 without a win prior to that and come into this match following a surprise 2-1 home defeat against a terribly out of form QPR side which suggests there is still plenty of work for them to do before they are truly heading in the right direction.
Defensively they’ve been vulnerable and have let in 10 goals in their last 5 matches. Wednesday have some of the best forwards in the Championship and they ought to be capable of exploiting those defensive deficiencies. There could be a goal in this for Wolves too but they won’t be able to give Wednesday a head-start and expect to fight back, which they’ve done against weaker sides in recent weeks.
The Owls are so strong at home, you’d back them to beat most sides in this league at home and there looks to be value in backing Sheffield Wednesday to win at 4/5.
