Sligo Rovers vs Drogheda United Predictions

  • Sligo Rovers have failed to win four of their seven home league games this season.
  • Drogheda United are the league’s leading scorers with 27 goals from 14 games.
  • Drogheda United have scored in all six of their away games this season.

The League of Ireland Premier Division’s two in-form teams meet at The Showgrounds on Saturday with leaders Sligo Rovers bidding to maintain their title-winning form against Drogheda United.

During a run of five straight wins, Liam Buckley’s side have beaten both big-spending Dundalk and champions Shamrock Rovers.

Four of those five victories have been accompanied by clean sheets with goalkeeper Edward McGinty showing himself to be capable of some game-changing stops.

That sequence will come under threat this weekend from the top flight’s highest scorers, who average almost two goals a game.

Admittedly the Boynesiders have bullied the lesser lights in the league by racking up 15 of their 27 goals in just three games against Longford Town and Waterford United.

But they have scored in all six of their away games this term and possess the league’s leading marksman in seven-goal Mark Doyle.

The surprise package of the season may have one more trick up their sleeve and avoid defeat on Saturday – as they almost did when going down 2-1 to Derry City prior to the mid-season break.

Tim Clancy’s men had strong penalty claims turned down in the final few minutes of that game as their four-match winning run came to an end.

The Draw or Drogheda United option appeals to us in the Double Chance market because Sligo Rovers will be without their leading striker Romeo Parkes.

The Bit O’Red hitman is serving a suspension after receiving his marching orders during the win over Finn Harps.

Only one of Sligo Rovers’ home games this season has seen more than two goals scored so, in terms of a correct score bet, we’ll take 1-1 rather than 2-2.
