Drogheda United to Win

Reason for tip

Sligo have failed to win any of their last six League of Ireland matches and they have shipped 16 goals on that winless run. Drogheda are not a top-level side, but they could have enough to win at the Showgrounds.

Drogheda United 3-1

Reason for tip

Sligo’s last six league fixtures have finished with scorelines of 3-2, 2-1, 2-2, 2-0, 4-0 and 3-1 and another high-scoring contest looks likely when Drogheda head west.

Sligo Rovers vs Drogheda United Predictions

  • Eight of Sligo’s last nine games have gone over 2.5 goals
  • Sligo are winless in their last six league matches
  • Both teams have scored in only one of Drogheda’s last four games

Sligo can continue to slide

Sligo are stuck at the bottom of the League of Ireland Premier Division and it’s worrying times at the Showgrounds.

Manager John Russell has left to join Shelbourne and that has left Declan Boyle in temporary charge of the Bit O’Red.

It’s not ideal timing for Sligo, who did beat Janesboro 4-0 in the cup last weekend, but have failed to win any of their previous six Irish top-flight games.

The Bit O’Red can take some hope from victories over Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians, who occupy the top-two positions in the league, this season, but those results are becoming more and more distant memories and Sligo do not look in a good spot to bounce back against Drogheda.

The Drogs are only five points clear of Sligo at the bottom of the table, but they did beat Dundalk 2-1 at Oriel Park earlier this month and Kevin Doherty’s men have the more recent winning form in the bag.

Drogheda had a 4-0 cruise against Lucan in the FAI Cup last Friday and they should set them up nicely for the Showground challenge against Sligo.
