Austria to Win

Reason for tip

Slovenia won plenty of plaudits for their organised performances at Euro 2024 as they were eliminated by Portugal on penalties despite not losing a game. They face an Austria side who like to play on the front foot and there is an interesting clash in styles here, but Das Team may just have that extra bit of quality to edge it. The Austrians are fairly strong travellers with five wins and no defeats in their last seven trips so they may be able to leave Ljubljana with maximum points.

Austria 2-1

Reason for tip

Both teams have scored in three of Slovenia’s last five games and in six of Austria’s last seven. An away win is expected but they’re unlikely to run away with this, so take a 2-1 win for Austria.

Slovenia vs Austria Predictions

  • Austria beat Poland and the Netherlands at Euro 2024.
  • Slovenia are winless in five overall.
  • Both teams have scored in six of Austria’s last seven games.

Austria can raid Ljubljana

Slovenia and Austria meet in Ljubljana on Friday in an intriguing Nations League B match-up.

The Austrians caught the eye in the early stages of Euro 2024 with their attacking flair, while an organised Slovenia side were eliminated on penalties by Portugal without losing a game in the tournament.

This is a clash of styles as the defence first hosts take on an adventurous Austria, and I fancy the more attacking side to claim the win here.

Slovenia do have an impressive home record but Das Team have been picking up results on the road over the last few years. Austria are unbeaten in their last seven trips (W5, D2) and have won in Sweden and drawn in Belgium during that run.

Ralf Rangnick’s side may feel they have a bit of a point to prove after what was perhaps a harsh Euros exit at the hands of Turkey, and they can use that as motivation to win in Slovenia.

In terms of a correct score, a 2-1 win for Austria has some appeal here. Slovenia generally keep things tight and under 2.5 goals has been a winning bet in each of their last six games – but both teams have scored in three of those – so I’m taking a chance on the visitors grinding out a narrow win.
