Slovenia vs Austria Predictions

Slovenia lost 2-1 in Macedonia on Thursday and in the process dropped down to fourth in Group G with just three qualifying games remaining. Austria extended their fine run of form with a 3-1 win over Israel in midweek and occupy second place, three points behind Poland.

All of the stats suggest that we won’t see both teams score on Sunday and we’re expecting a tight and tense ninety minutes and have predicted the game to end goalless.

The three previous encounters between these two clubs have never seen both teams score and under 2.5 goals were produced in two of the pairs’ three previous encounters, so you can see why we’re backing a 0-0 draw this weekend.

The form fo both teams suggests that neither side will prove easy to beat, as Slovenia have won three of their last four matches and Austria have won four of their last five qualifiers. The visitors are unbeaten in their last five internationals, picking up points against Israel, Poland, Latvia, Macedonia, and Slovenia, so it’s hard to see them losing on Sunday.

The performances’ of both teams, especially in defence, over the last few months only adds weight to our prediction for Sunday’s clash, as both teams scored in just two of Slovenia’s and two of Austria’s last five matches, and Slovenia have kept two clean sheets in their last four games, while Austria have kept three clean sheets in their last five qualifiers.

We’re confident that we won’t see both teams score on Sunday and have predicted a final scoreline of 0-0. Slovenia will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing midweek defeat and at home are unbeaten in their last five matches. Austria have been performing well of late so confidence won’t be lacking in the visitors’ camp this weekend. However, both teams have put in a number of good defensive performances of late and that’s why we believe the pair will play out a goalless draw this weekend.
