South Korea vs Syria Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

South Korea’s quest for the top spot in their World Cup qualifier took a blow on Thursday as they lost 1-0 away to China, leaving them 2nd in the table with a four point deficit to make up on top of the group Iran. They are only a point ahead of Uzbekistan below them as well.

Their overall form isn’t bad to be fair. They have lost to Iran and China in this World Cup qualifying campaign so far, but they have won five of their last eight in all competitions. Their last meeting with Syria did result in a goalless draw away from home though.

All of South Korea’s recent failures to win have come on the road though, and at home they are a force to be reckoned with in Asia. They have won nine matches on the bounce, scoring an impressive 29 goals and keeping six clean sheets in the process.

Syria strengthened their own lofty ambitions of reaching the World Cup on Thursday as they beat Uzbekistan 1-0 at home, putting them to within two points of South Korea in 2nd place. A win on Tuesday could see them move into the runners up spot with just three games remaining.

That victory made it three wins, three draws, and two defeats in their last eight outings, although the majority of their impressive defensive displays do come at home. On the road they have lost four of their last eight, failing to score in five of those games and winning just two of them.

Seven of South Korea’s last nine home matches have seen at least three goals scored, largely thanks to their excellent attack. Syria do adopt a defensive approach, but on the road we have seen this fail against Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan in the last 12 months. Odds of 9/10 for Over 2.5 Goals look good value for money, so I’m backing that alongside a 3-0 win for South Korea at 5/1 for my correct score predictions.
