Southampton vs Manchester City Predictions

  • Over 2.5 goals has been a winning bet in each of Southampton’s last four games.
  • Man City’s Premier League games are averaging 2.9 goals-per-game.
  • Saints have lost their last three games.
  • City have scored four or more goals in four of their last 10 away games.

Another Saints test for City

Southampton have hit a rough patch in form ahead of their FA Cup quarter-final clash with Manchester City but they have enjoyed some success against the Premier League leaders this term.

Saints have managed draws in both of their meetings with Guardiola’s men this term, although they were perhaps lucky on both occasions. That luck may well run out in the cup this weekend but City are too short a price to back in this game, particularly as they have already failed to beat Saints twice this term.

Goals markets appeal

City go into this fixture after back-to-back 0-0 draws but I’m expecting some action at St Mary’s. One of those stalemates came in a Champions League clash with Sporting after they had already built up a 5-0 first leg lead, and the other came against Crystal Palace.

City were wasteful with their chances against the Eagles but Saints have struggled defensively lately and the visitors should be able to end their goal drought,

The hosts have conceded eight goals in their last three games and each of their last four has seen over 2.5 goals scored. Over 2.5 goals has been a winning bet in five of City’s last 10 games, so that looks like a good starting point in this fixture.

City can finish the job in 90 minutes

City may have failed to score in their last two games but they have still been creating chances and can claim a win here without the need of extra time or penalties.

As this is a knockout tie, an early goal could really open the game up and as Saints have conceded a first half goal in each of their last three there is a reasonable chance that could happen. I may have been reluctant to go for an away win at a short price as the main bet but it could pay to be bold with the correct score selection and a 4-0 win for the visitors has some appeal here.

Saints are in poor form and conceded twice against Watford last time out, while City can be ruthless at times and they have scored four or more goals in four of their last 10 away games so we could well see a big win for Pep Guardiola’s men if they are able to strike early.
