Southampton vs Manchester City Predictions
- Amazon Prime
- Southampton have lost just one of their last 11 Premier League matches.
- Manchester City have only won five of their 13 league games this season.
- Manchester City have played out four 1-1 stalemates in the top flight this season.
- Danny Ings has scored six goals in ten league appearances.
Saints on cloud nine
The last time these two sides met back in July Southampton pulled off a shock 1-0 victory over Manchester City, and we’re expecting the Saints to find more success on Saturday.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side picked up a point away to a dire Arsenal outfit in midweek and now find themselves all the way up in third place in the top flight. They are just four points adrift of the top spot and are playing some fantastic football under the 53-year-old Austrian manager.
They have lost only one of their last 11 Premier League matches, and even that was an extremely unfortunate defeat against Manchester United, with the Red Devils coming back from 2-0 down in the final half an hour.
Poor form continues for the Citizens
Despite this, Manchester City are huge odds on favourites to get the three points on Saturday, and we think the value lies in backing the underdogs to get something from the clash.
Manchester City dropped yet more points in midweek as the relegation threatened West Brom left the Etihad with a point. This leaves the Citizens in 8th position with an eight point gulf between them and the top spot.
Pep Guardiola’s side have won just five of their 12 games so far and, away from home, they have only won one of their last five. That sole victory came against bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United, but Southampton are expected to show more resistance than the Blades.
High-flying Southampton to pull off an upset
This makes a Southampton double chance look excellent value, and with Man City playing out four 1-1 draws this season we’re opting for that as our correct score prediction.
We’re also backing Southampton’s star striker to find the back of the net. The in-form attacker is only recently returned from injury but has scored six goals in ten Premier League appearances this season.
Southampton injuries and team news
Southampton, quite remarkably, head into this game with a clean bill of health and could name the same starting lineup that took a point from the Emirates in midweek.
Theo Walcott is likely to keep his place after scoring against his former club, although Nathan Redmond could come in on the left to support Ings and Che Adams up front.
Manchester City injuries and team news
Sergio Aguero could feature in the starting lineup after returning to Premier League action in midweek, while Riyad Mahrez and Ferran Torres could also return to the starting lineup after a poor showing from the Manchester City attackers against West Brom.
Eric Garcia and Oleksandr Zinchenko are the only injury concerns for Pep Guardiola.
