Tip Reasoning

  • St Mirren have scored and conceded in three of their last four Premiership games.
  • Rangers have scored and conceded in two of their last three away Premiership games.
  • St Mirren are unbeaten in their last six Premiership games.
  • Rangers’ only away wins this season came against sides below the Buddies in the table.

Rangers will be tested by in-form hosts

St Mirren could prove testing opponents for Rangers this weekend when the Buddies put their six-game unbeaten run on the line against Steven Gerrard’s men.

Jim Goodwin’s side are growing in belief after a slow start in the league and, after three wins on the bounce, fancy their chances of showing a TV audience they can go toe to toe with the champions.

St Mirren have shown two different faces at home and away this year with generally low-scoring games at St Mirren Park and more open affairs coming on the road for them. The hosts have not scored in their last three home Premiership games against the Light Blues, but did put three past Allan McGregor in a 3-2 League Cup win at St Mirren Park last December.

Hosts will be encouraged by recent Gers struggles

The Saints scored three in a fast-paced win over Ross County last week to make it nine goals in their last four games and we like their chances of bagging on Sunday against a Gers defence that has shipped at a rate of a goal a game so far on the road.

Defeat at Dundee United and the recent home capitulation against Hearts has hurt Rangers’ invincible reputation and will encourage St Mirren to go after them in this clash.

That’s why we make both teams to score the main selection for this, although we acknowledge that the champions should still find a way to win with the 2-1 correct score prediction. Rangers have beaten three teams currently below St Mirren in the standings and didn’t make any of those look easy, which is why we have gone for a one-goal margin of victory here.
