Home record is a big boost for Saints

Southampton and West Ham have both endured a traumatic time in the last few months, but it is the Saints who have had the stronger start to the season and they could come out on top of their EFL Cup clash on Tuesday.

Being expelled from last season’s Championship playoffs was a huge blow, but the Saints bounced back well froma  defeat at Watford in their season opener to beat Stoke handily at the weekend.

They are also boosted by the fact it is 14 games since they last tasted a defeat at St Mary’s.

Hammers looking to adjust

It looked like being a smooth transition for West Ham after they beat Portsmouth 3-1 in the last round, but their league campaign is not going to plan after they conceded two late goals to draw at Burnley and were then sunk by London rivals Charlton at home on Saturday.

It looks a case of them finding their feet following relegation and it seems Southampton are playing them at the right time, so the home side should be supported in the betting.

Goals look to be on the agenda with all but two of the Hammers’ last 11 outings producing at least three, so correct-score enthusiasts may wish to back the Saints to gain a 2-1 win.
