      Southend vs Lincoln City Predictions

      • Southend United have won just twice this season and sit 15 points away from safety with their relegation looking assured.
      • Lincoln City have lost two in a row after a brief good spell but have lost top goalscorer Tyler Walker following his recall by Nottingham Forest.
      • Southend have scored 30 goals this season, a number the matches some sides in and around midtable but they’ve conceded 69 times, a league high and average of 2.55 goals per game.
      • Lincoln City have both scored and conceded 36 goals in 29 games, a rate of 1.24 goals per game.

Will Southend United begin their great escape?

It’s been a long, hard season for Southend United fans, with the side struggling since the opening day and only winning twice with a run of 16 games in between their victories. They’ve shown a little resolve in recent weeks, picking up a win against Accrington and securing three draws in their last five games.

Southend have scored a decent amount of goals this season with The Shrimpers finding the net on 30 occasions, an amount that should see them safe of the relegation zone. Their defensive issues have been their downfall though with the side conceding 69 goals in just 27 games, a record that is likely to lead to their relegation to League Two.

Lincoln have lost their only goalscorer; Can they recover?

This hasn’t been a great week for Lincoln fans, with Nottingham Forest recalling leading scorer, Tyler Walker, from his loan at the club. Walker had scored 14 goals for The Imps until he was recalled with the next highest scorer in the squad scoring just four. Lincoln’s form has also got worse in recent weeks with two losses in a row and only one goal scored in their last three.

Lincoln have the unique record in League One of scoring and conceding the same amount of goals. They’ve found the net and had their own breached 36 times, a rate of 1.24 goals per game. They’ll hope to improve that record slightly but they really could struggle to find the net without their talismanic striker.

Does either side win out this weekend?

This game is an interesting one with home advantage giving Southend an edge that might otherwise be missing. It’s hard to know how Lincoln will react to losing Walker but their goal threat has significantly diminished and with Southend fighting for their lives at the bottom we’re backing The Shrimpers to come away with a win or the draw on the double chance market.

The two sides look quite evenly matched with Lincoln lacking form and a definite goal threat whilst Southend are clearly struggling across the board. We think the draw is the most likely outcome and with the double chance market covering this prediction too, we’re backing Southend and Lincoln to share the points in a 1-1 draw.
