Sporting Lisbon vs Braga Predictions

Braga can’t stop super Sporting

Champions Sporting Lisbon take on cup winners Sporting Braga in the Portuguese Super Cup in Aveiro on Saturday.

The Lions stormed to their first title in 19 years last season, taking top spot in the table after six rounds and never relinquishing it.

Transfer activity has been thin on the ground this summer but Sporting have snapped up right-back Ricardo Esgaio from Braga.

Carlos Carvahal’s side took down Benfica with a tactical masterclass in the cup final just over a week after the Eagles had won a seven-goal derby thriller against Sporting.

And while the Lions look like a side bursting with goals and youthful exuberance, Minho are a team that strives for control and trends towards low scoring games.

Most of their pre-season matches have been low-scoring affairs and we like the chances of this clash featuring Under 2.5 goals.

But the path looks clear for Sporting to maintain their recent ascendency over Braga and get the win in 90 minutes because Braga will be without six players.

David Carmo, Iuri Medeiros and Leonardo Buta are recovering from injuries while Lucas Piazon, Lucas Mineiro and Fábio Martins are suspended.
