St Etienne vs Marseille Predictions
- Marseille have conceded at least once in each of their last six matches.
- The visitors have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last four meetings with Saint-Etienne.
- The hosts have not tasted defeat across their last three matches.
Saint-Etienne’s defence needs to be at their best
The hosts have managed to put a short but extremely valuable run together as they’ve been unbeaten in six of their last seven Ligue 1 matches – only table-topping PSG have managed to take three points from them during that run. They’ve conceded just a single goal across their last three league outings which shows vast improvement and they’ll be relying on this defensive solidity to help guide them to safety. Their unbeaten run has seen them pull away from the bottom two but now, another test presents itself in the shape of Champions League spot chasing Marseille.
The visitors are on a good run themselves, having won their last four matches in a row across all competitions. This good form has put them into the quarter-final of the Europa Conference League and they’ll also be confident that they can continue to hold on in the league and finish as runners-up. Despite their good form overall, their defence has been a bit of a concern as they’ve failed to keep a single clean sheet in the league since mid-January.
Hosts can defy the odds
It’s a bit of a long shot but we like the hosts in this underdog role. They’ve shown signs of improving and they’ll make life tough for the visitors. Marseille have conceded against Saint-Etienne in all of the last four meetings and have shown their defensive frailties. We think the hosts have an outside chance of an upset here and will back them in the draw no bet market.
