Bayern Munich to Win and Under 3.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

St. Pauli have not won since late February and have lost two of their last three games. It seems unlikely that they will hold Bayern, who have won 11 and drawn one of their last 12 games in all competitions, at bay for any points. But the Bundesliga leaders may find it tougher to overpower St Pauli is they make the expected changes before the Real Madrid second leg, so take them to win with fewer than four goals in the game.

Bayern Munich 2-0

Reason for tip

St. Pauli have scored the fewest goals in the Bundesliga (25) and that includes only three in their last four matches. They will struggle to score against Bayern, whose pressing game will keep the hosts pinned back for long periods. Bayern average 2.4 goals per away game across their last five Bundesliga trips, so back them to claim a controlled 2-0 win on the road.

St Pauli vs Bayern Munich Predictions

  • St. Pauli have scored the fewest goals in the Bundesliga (25)
  • St. Pauli have not won since late February
  • Bayern have won 11 and drawn one of their last 12 games in all competitions

St Pauli have been suffering

Bayern brought their century of Bundesliga goals up in last week’s dramatic comeback win at Freiburg, but the leaders could find it tougher to break down a St Pauli side fighting for their lives on Saturday.

On paper it should be straightforward for the record champions, chasing their 35th title. St. Pauli are winless since February and have scored the fewst goals in the division, but the Millerntor has a habit of turning simple assignments into awkward evenings, and the Kiezkicker’s mix of intensity, set‑piece threat and desperation means this is no routine trip north for the Bavarians.

St. Pauli’s second season back in the Bundesliga has been far tougher than their first. They sit dangerously close to the drop zone and a 1-1 draw at Union Berlin last weekend did little to ease the pressure. The Hamburg-based side’s attack has struggled badly, failing to score more than once in any of their last five matches.

Bayern in the winning habit

Despite their issues, St. Pauli remain defensively organised and extremely dangerous from dead balls, scoring over half of their goals from set pieces. Their work rate is enormous too, with only three Bundesliga teams covering more distance.

Even so, Bayern’s quality, control of possession and superior firepower should tell over 90 minutes. St. Pauli will fight, but the league leaders are strong favourites to take the points, even with a huge Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid looming large in their sights.

Vincernt Kompany’s side made a few changes last weekend and found themselves 2-0 down at Freiburg, but their composure and will to win shone through with Lennart Karl hitting the winner deep in stoppage time when they could easily have settled for a draw.
