Standard can put home hoodoo to bed with victory

Standard Liege were poor in front of their fans towards the latter stages of last campaign but they can start the new home season brightly with victory over reigning champions Club Brugge, who have largely struggled in their visits to Wallonia as of late.

Les Rouches lost two and drew three of their final five games of last season and started this campaign with another draw at Gent. However, they did lose just one of their four pre-season friendlies and could be showing signs of improvement.

Club Brugge also started their league season with a draw – at home to KV Mechelen – but they have already lost out on silverware after being defeated 2-1 by Union SG in the Super Cup, while they have also lost six of their last eleven trips to the Stade Maurice Dufrasne, winning none.

This strong recent home record over Club Brugge will give Standard Liege the confidence to take all three points in their meeting on Sunday but it is unlikely to come simply for the Reds. Seven of their last 11 home meetings have seen both teams score and so a 2-1 final result looks the most tempting option in the correct score market.
