Tip Reasoning

  • Salford have only lost two of their last 17 League Two matches.
  • Stevenage have lost back-to-back games and suffered six reverses in their last 10 contests.
  • Salford won the reverse fixture 1-0 in December.

Salford looking to end season on a high

Class-of-92-owned Salford City cannot make the League Two play-offs this campaign, but a run of just two defeats in their last 17 league outings suggests Gary Bowyer’s men are intent on finishing the season well ahead of a potential promotion push next time around.

While Saturday’s trip to Stevenage thus is indeed a dead rubber, facing the Stags represents a great opportunity for the visitors to head into the summer break on a positive note. Stevenage have lost six of their last 10 matches, including each of their last two, to drop to 21st, with only a recent four-match unbeaten run saving them from a genuine relegation fight after they went 11 without winning.

Outside of the top seven, only Newport County can better the 31 points Salford have taken on the road this term, and Bowyer’s men have only lost one of their last eight on their travels. Having beaten the Stags 1-0 in December’s return fixture when they were in far worse shape, Salford should be confident of completing a double on the final day.

Visitors can finish with a flourish

Considering Stevenage’s poor form over the entire second half of the campaign, as well as Salford’s solid run and strong away record, backing the visitors for a victory looks a decent play.

Meanwhile, only Scunthorpe and Carlisle have scored fewer than the Stag’s 41 fourth-tier goals this term, so another 1-0 win for the Ammies could be a decent correct score prediction.
