Stjarnan vs Kr Predictions
Stjarnan seem to be well and truly over the little slump they endured earlier in the season. They went on a run of four defeats in five games in all competitions and saw their title challenge put under threat, but they have regained the ground they lost and are back in the race.
The hosts finished in 4th position in last season’s Iceland Urvalsdeild, nine points adrift of 3rd placed KR and 15 off champions FH. However, this season it’s turning out to be much different, and they come into this match in 2nd position with just a point between them and leaders FH.
This is thanks to them winning four of their last five games and drawing the remaining one, which coincided nicely with a dip in FH’s form at the top of the table. Whilst this match is being played, FH will face off against 3rd placed Fjolnir, so a win could quite possible see Stjarnan move to the summit of the table.
KR are not the force they were last season. The visitors finished in 3rd position in the Urvalsdeild last season, but they began the 2016 campaign with just two wins in their opening ten matches, losing four times and sending them towards the wrong end of the table.
They have recovered somewhat with three wins in their last four matches, but the early season form is still haunting them. They are down in 7th position, eight points adrift of Stjarnan and only nine clear of the relegation zone.
Away from home KR are yet to really get going though. They managed to beat league leaders FH last time out, but they have still lost four of their last six trips away and won just twice on the road all season. One of these was against the dreadful Fylkir as well.
Stjarnan, on the other hand, have won five of their seven home matches in the Urvalsdeild this season, losing just once and drawing another against FH. I think they have a great chance on Monday. They are in good form and have a really good recent record against KR, with five of their last seven meetings ending in a Stjarnan victory.
My prediction is for them to get another three points on Monday, especially with the added incentive of potentially moving into the lead in the title race. Odds of 11/8 for a Stjarnan Win look very good value considering their form, so I’m backing that alongside a 2-0 correct score prediction at 12/1.
