Stoke City vs Luton Predictions

  • Stoke have failed to win seven of their last eight home league contests.
  • Luton have avoided defeat in six of their last seven Championship away games.
  • Luton have kept clean sheets in five of their last seven away league games, winning two of the last three 1-0.

Jones’ side have a head of steam

Nathan Jones takes his improving Luton side to his former club Stoke on Tuesday with solid prospects of picking up another three points on the road. The Hatters have won five of their last seven away Championship games and are now up to eighth in the table after Saturday’s 1-0 win at Blackpool.

In stark contrast, the Potters are now in possession of the division’s second-worst home record with just eight points taken from a possible 27 at bet365 Stadium. Stoke suffered another setback at home when another improving side – Birmingham City – won there on Saturday.

Alex Neil may now be regretting his decision to abandon Sunderland’s ship for a bigger budget opportunity with Stoke, who are now languishing in 19th place – six spots behind his former club. They have also only scored 20 times this season from their 19 fixtures and are looking at being in a relegation scrap until that changes.

Hatters making a habit of midweek away wins

Luton are hardly prolific on their travels, but their ability to keep it tight has seen them keep five clean sheets in their last seven road games. James Shea, Sonny Bradley, Reece Burke and Henri Lansbury could miss out with various knocks, but Jones’ side are well organised whoever the personnel may be and particularly effective on midweek away days.

Luton have won their last three away league fixtures not played on Saturday or Sunday – continuing a theme which helped them finish with the fifth-best away record in the division last season. Luton are worth the gamble to win the game outright even without a couple of key players, but Stoke are not at full strength either and could go dow to another meet defeat.

Neil’s side have not scored in three of their last four home league games and 1-0 away win seems an appropriate forecast here.
