Sunderland vs Everton Predictions
Sunderland fans dared to hope at the beginning of the season as they saw their team battle bravely against Manchester City. They drew level at the Etihad and were holding their own against a barrage of attacks, but a late own goal from newly signed Patrick McNair saw them leave with nothing. Either way it was still a good performance from them and injected some hope into the city of Sunderland.
This hope rapidly diminished in a dismal 2-1 defeat at home to north east rivals Middlesbrough, and they followed that with a rather unconvincing 1-0 victory at home to Shrewsbury Town in the League Cup.
Another drab match against Southampton followed, but it did result in their first Premier League point of the season. Jermain Defoe got the first goal of the game from the penalty spot with just ten minutes remaining, and it looked as if the visitors were about to get the victory before Jay Rodriguez found the equaliser five minutes later.
This is by no means Sunderland’s worst ever start to a Premier League season, but it’s obvious that there are still improvements that need to be made. The additions of Didier Ndong and Jason Denayer on deadline day could help to solve those problems.
Everton will be a difficult side to beat though. They began their campaign under new manager Ronald Koeman with a 1-1 draw at home to Spurs before recovering from an early West Brom goal to win 2-1 against them.
A 4-0 hammering of Yeovil Town followed, and then a Shay Given own goal at home to Stoke sealed another three points for them to keep their unbeaten start to the season going.
Both of these teams have managed to find the net in all of their games this season. Sunderland have actually scored in 11 of their last 14 matches in the Premier League as well, whilst Everton have in seven of their last nine in the league. Sunderland have conceded in ten of their last 14 as well, whilst Everton have kept just two clean sheets in their last nine.
This makes odds of 4/5 for Both Teams to Score look very good value for money, and that’s what I’m backing for my main prediction. As far as the correct score prediction goes, I think Everton’s good start to the season could guide them to a victory, so odds of 17/2 for a 2-1 win for Everton look good value.
