Swansea City to Win and Under 3.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Hull have lost four of their last five games and failed to score in each of their last two – they look like big changes may be needed going into this game against an improving Swansea, who beat QPR at home earlier this month. They followed it up with a proud display against leaders Sheffield United in midweek – only losing to a last-second winner when they were overcommitted in attack. Both matches demonstrated Swansea’s improved attitude to keeping opponents out, which is why fewer than 3.5 goals are recommended here too.

Swansea City 2-1

Reason for tip

The Swans are not in the sort of form to bury anybody at the moment so a 2-1 home victory is forecast because Martin’s men have kept only one home clean sheet in their last ten while Hull have conceded an average of 2.25 away goals so far this term.

Swansea City vs Hull City Predictions

  • Hull have lost four of their last five games and failed to score in each of their last two.
  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in five of Swansea’s last seven league games.
  • Both meetings between the clubs in the Championship last season produced two goals or fewer in total.

Swans can worsen Hull’s headaches

Swansea can build on some positive recent performances to get a win out of Saturday’s home game with Hull City – where goals might be few and far between. Russell Martin’s team started the campaign very sloppily – in their general play and in collecting points – but appear to have turned a corner in recent weeks.

They beat Queens Park Rangers 1-0 at Swansea.com Stadium at the start of September and followed it up with a proud display against leaders Sheffield United in midweek – only losing to a last-second winner when they were overcommitted in attack. Both matches demonstrated Swansea’s improved attitude to keeping opponents out.

There has been a major shift from the panicky, uncertain defending that led Blackburn’s 3-0 win of early August or the late meltdown that allowed Millwall to level from two goals down.

Piroe still not purring like last season

However, there is still an issue to be solved around putting the ball in the back of the net with last season’s 22-goal top scorer Joel Piroe off form. He missed a golden chance to break the deadlock on Tuesday while his teammates struggled to capitalise on good opportunities too.

One goal may be enough on Saturday because Hull have failed to score in each of their last two games – both at home – producing an identical result to Swansea’s against the Blades before crashing to a 3-0 defeat to Stoke on Tuesday. Shota Arveladze’s side are short on confidence at the moment and look vulnerable to defensive lapses, which may put some off an under 2.5 goals play here – despite Swansea having been involved in plenty of low-scoring games of late.

The Swans are not in the sort of form to bury anybody at the moment with only a threat of a Hull goal persuading us to take the hosts to win with under 3.5 goals rather than the under 2.5 goal option. A 2-1 home victory is forecast because Martin’s men have kept only one home clean sheet in their last ten while Hull have conceded an average of 2.25 away goals so far this term.
